oh Whitney!

I have often talked about how I am into running to angry girl music and country.  But when I crossed the finish line of my first marathon, there was only one song that I saw fitting to listen to....Whitney Houston's "One Moment in Time".  When I was training that was one the song that I would put on when I didn't think I could run more step, and I would imagine crossing the finish line.  Those thoughts would help push me to finish the run and when I hit mile 26 in Cincinnati that is the song I put on to push me to run the last two tenths of a mile.  (I'm sure many think this is all very dorky, but WHATEVER gets you through a long run do it!)  I have her greatest hits dance version on my ipod, and it is one of my favorite albums to run to.  Songs like "How Will I Know" and "Step by Step" are fantastic to listen to along the lake front path.

One of my favorite Whitney memories is at my cousin Ashley's weddings a few years ago, when "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" came on and none of the younger girls knew the words or that the song even exsisted (ugh these young kids really missed out on a fantastic generation of music.....learn your 80's songs!!!).  My cousin's girlfriend Shannon were shocked that they did not know this epic song, we ran to the dance floor with our favors of candy apples to sing and dance as loud as we could:

Of course yesterday, Whitney Houston passed away at the age of 48, and I am incredibly sadden by this.  This is actually the first artist that has died at a young age that I have been truly depressed by.  She was one of the biggest artist during my youth and acted in one of my favorite Christmas movies "The Preacher's Wife".

I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity

Rest in Peace Whitney.....I will be having a constant dance party in my apartment to your music for the next few days!
